Number 20 is fast becoming a well talked
about number in the sommelier world, as this is what to search when receiving
an invitation to join me to experience some of the finest wines Chile has to
offer; it is of course Home House in Portman Square, London.
To complement this selection of wines we had as a starter of Ballotine of Foi Gras with Apple Chutney and Toasted Brioche, then pan roasted rib eye of beef with wet garlic, chestnut mushrooms and fries, and a selection of Cheeses to round off the meal.
We had Sauvignon Blanc ‘Terrunyo’ 2011 as
an aperitif and even though Sauvignon Blanc is not a Sommelier favourite, it
really represents Casablanca and it has a strong Chilean identity.
With the Foi gras we really enjoyed Amelia
2011, the freshness and creaminess of the Chardonnay really combined with the
richness of the dish.
Don Melchor 2009 was the perfect match for
the rib-eye. We all enjoyed the wine and the way the meat was cooked. Look at
the presentation; it looks like Picasso is back in action! Stunning.
It was great to show what Peumo can offer in terms of Carmenere. The style is riper than other regions and we could see how Carmenere has a big aging potential here. Carmenre ‘Terrunyo’ were matched with the cheeses but could easily be drink with red meats.
To end the meal we had Late Harvest
Sauvignon Blanc very refreshing sweet wine to end the meal.
