Award-winning sommelier joins CyT UK

Alvaro Marcos Garcia takes up the newly created role of Sommelier and Brand Ambassador for Prestige Accounts from 7 September 2011. He will be working alongside the sales and marketing team to develop sales of CyT UK’s Fine Wine Collection in the independent retail sector and fine dining establishments.

Spaniard Alvaro has considerable experience of Michelin-starred restaurants. He joins CyT UK from private members club Home House, where he was Head Sommelier & Wine Buyer. Prior to that, he was the Head Sommelier & Wine Buyer at Theo Randall in Park Lane and has also worked at Gordon Ramsey at The Savoy Grill, Tom Aikens Restaurant and Harvey Nichols OXO Tower Restaurant. In 2007, he was the winner of the International Sommelier Challenge Food and Wine Matching Competition and a semi-finalist in the UK Sommelier of the Year Competition.

The new role demonstrates CyT UK’s intention to develop sales of its fine wines in the on-trade and specialist retail sector.The Fine Wine Collection, launched in 2007, brings together all the single-vineyard and fine wines from its Chilean, Argentinian and now Californian wineries. It offers a vast range of wine styles and includes tiny parcels of wines in limited availability.
