NOVIKOV

I really want it to Show Aromatic and fine wines from Chile with some Asian dishes, especially Dim Sum. After looking around where to do this event, I decided on Novikov. We all know in the industry Novikov is an excellent Asian Restaurant with a very unique Dim Sum Menu.

This time I invited:

Neil Keeling - (Commercial Director of Hispamerchants.)

 Wieteke Teppema  Roberson Wine

Elvis - Assistant / Head Sommelier Greenhouse

Denise Medrano - Wine Journalist

I showcased a selection of aromatic wines like Riesling ‘Maiden Flight’ , D.O Bio Bio Valley 2012 and Gewürztraminer  ‘Los Gansos’, Central Vallley 2012 and some of our selection of Iconic wines including : Amelia 2011, Carmenere ‘Terrunyo’, D.O Peumo 2009 and Don Melchor, D.O Puente Alto 2009.

With this selection of wines we had 5 different Dim Sum, plus a Peking duck and a pork dish, which provided so many different flavours! The wines complimented the food; despite this cuisine often being considered harder to match.

As a overall opinion we agreed that Chile can produce ideal wines to complement this style of food.
We all were very impressed with the style of the Gewürztraminer ‘Los Gansos’. The Gewurztraminer matched most of the dishes as the wine is well balanced with the fruit, acidity and alcohol. As Wiet commented, this wine on paper was the less interesting but when it was matched with the dishes, it surprised us all!

We all were very impressed of the quality of food serve at Novikov’s Asian Restaurant especially when the duck and the pork dish arrived.
To complement these two meat dishes, we had Don Melchor 2009 and Carmenere ‘Terrunyo’ 2009.
Don Melchor vineyards come from Puente Alto- An area located in Central valley not far from Santiago de Chile. Puente Alto is considered worldwide as one of the best areas to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. Don Melchor is made with 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc.

Carmenere ‘Terrunyo’ Vineyards come from Peumo, a unique D.O which allows carmenere to grow and ripe in a very slow process. Peumo has an average temperature high of 27.8 C and an average lower temperature of 8.3 C between bud break and harvest.
Peumo allows 14 hours of sun a day – between 7:00 am and 20.30pm from November until mid March.
